Welcome to a special Christmas edition of GoodLinks discussion.
In GoodLinks #6 we considered how Advent turns our eyes towards the past and the future. Since then I’ve thought about how this time-stretching stands in contrast to the presentism of the technology that mediates much of our lives.
It’s easy to pretend we’re attending to all the things when we’re online; we’re plugged in, masters of the latest meme. But are we? Why does it seem more difficult to be present at the table, after the turkey’s been cleared away?
🎄 In keeping with the the themes of faith and technology, here are two questions:
What’s something you think a church could offer you that’s rare or necessary in our hyper-online lives?
Have you ever had the experience of feeling “fully-human” or, perhaps, less than? If you’re willing to share, I’d love to hear about it.
I think it would be helpful for churches to facilitate technology-free worship and prayer days--both in the city and in nature. I know that I feel more in-tune to myself and to Jesus when I can spend time alone in His creation.
